Game vs. Delaware Bobcats - February 21st

Today was our last official game of the season against the Delaware Bobcats. It was delayed for half an hour due to the Neumann College woman's game and some kids crappy practice slot before us. One of our players said that Ice Works would have booted us off the ice early if it had been our practice and I bet she's right. Rinks don't give a shit about women's hockey and won't think twice about moving or cutting short our ice for some boys or mens thing.

Todays game was pretty evenly matched. Both teams were missing players that would have helped each team, so neither one could really complain about them not being there to help. We ended up winning the game 2 - 1. It was up and down the ice, back and forth the entire game.

Aubrey (I really miss playing with her - she's another one of those people who I would always want on the ice with me) put the Bobcats only goal in on a nice, hard slap shot. Our goalie had a clear view of it, it was just too fast for her. Aubrey has a kickass slapper that more often than not is on net. Unlike my shot that today was hitting people in the thighs, legs, or the back of the boards. I'm getting a little miffed. I'm thinking of just using my wrist shot. It's more accurate that's for damn sure and it's almost as hard, so it might be a better choice for the playoffs coming up.

There was one call during the game that almost ruined it for us. Ginny of the Bobcats was coming into the zone with the puck. Michelle on our defense was almost to the side of her and pulled her down. Wendy was in front of them both. One ref calls a tripping penalty, then the other asshole says it's a penalty shot! WHAT?! The player was not on a clear breakaway. We had a player in front of her and on her, so how in the hell is that a penalty shot? The other ref even admitted that he thought the other ref made a bad call. Assholes. Women's hockey gets these shit refs. They come for the paycheck and could care less about really calling the game. I shouldn't be surprise by it after all these years, but after twenty-nine years of seeing it, it's getting lame. Call our games like you care and know the rules. Dorks.

So Dena makes the save and we stay ahead two to one. And Ginny had stopped her forward motion and tried going to the side on the shot. Which I know the ref wouldn't have called and if she had scored and he let that go, I would have been beyond livid. Thank God the puck was stopped.

So we win the game and we're happy, but not happy. We still have over a month to go before playoffs and have no games, only a few practices, and possibly one scrimmage with the Bobcats in March. This sucks. We need games and ice time to prepare for playoffs. We'll see what happens. Hopefully we can get another scrimmage in.
